G-7 launches countermeasures for economic coercion, eyeing China

U.S. and allies adopt targeted 'early warning' approach to minimize harm

HIROSHIMA, Japan -- The Group of Seven industrial powers on Saturday unveiled a new framework for countering what they deem economic coercion by countries such as China and Russia, although they did not name names.

The framework, dubbed the Coordination Platform on Economic Coercion, is aimed at allowing the G-7 to "increase our collective assessment, preparedness, deterrence and response," the grouping said in a statement.
