SEOUL -- Yoon Suk-yeol was sworn in as South Korea's president on Tuesday, opening a new era for a country facing threats from North Korea's military, an economic slowdown and high inflation.

The former chief prosecutor and political novice from the People Power Party vowed to protect the country and its 52 million people by respecting the constitution during an inauguration ceremony at the National Assembly.
