CHONGQING -- The Chinese manufacturing hub of Chongqing said Wednesday that it is extending the blackout imposed on factories until further notice to deal with a power shortage caused by the extreme heat.

Chongqing officials made the decision Tuesday and sent the notice to government agencies and businesses the next day. The extension follows the cuts to power begun by the city on Aug. 15.
