Books fly off shelves as fame grew after University of Tokyo speech

BEIJING -- Books by Japanese sociologist Chizuko Ueno have struck a chord with women in China as they strive to succeed in society with persistent gender biases.

Seven of her books were translated and published in China in 2022, selling roughly 200,000 copies in January and February. One of her co-authored works was named the top book of 2022 by one of the country's most popular culture rating websites.
