TSMC to secure neon in Taiwan after Ukraine shock for chip sector

Semiconductor giant aims for greener, more stable supply chains

HSINCHU, Taiwan -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is working with suppliers to secure local sources of neon gas after the global chip industry faced serious disruption caused by Russia's war in Ukraine.

The plan is part of efforts by the Taiwanese chipmaking giant to protect its supply chain after unprecedented turmoil in the global supply of semiconductors during the past two years. They also form part of the company's aim to reduce its carbon footprint.
